Foreword: Celebrating 25 Years of Vision and Growth

January 1, 2025

Dear Flying Disc Community,

As we celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Singapore Flying Disc Association (SFDA) in 2025, I am thrilled to reflect on our incredible journey and share our vision for the future. Over the past quarter-century, our commitment to the sport has driven remarkable achievements and laid a strong foundation for continued growth.

Key Milestones

Since our establishment in 2000, we have seen Singaporean players proudly represent us on the world stage, starting with the World Championships in 2007. Our Under-24 team’s achievement of a Bronze medal in 2019 and a Silver in 2023 highlights our competitive prowess. This year also marked our adoption of a revised constitution, paving the way for our recognition as a National Sport Association (NSA) by the Singapore National Olympic Council (SNOC).

Vision for the Future

Our recently outlined vision rests on four key pillars: Governance, Grassroots, Coaching, and Performance. These pillars are instrumental in guiding our path forward.

Governance: We have taken significant steps towards applying for charity status, which brings both responsibilities and opportunities. The updated constitution and the formation of various committees will reinforce accountability as we progress.

Grassroots: Expanding our base is crucial. Our efforts to integrate Flying Disc into primary and secondary schools, with plans to launch the National School Games in 2025, are transformative steps. Through community and corporate leagues, such as the Annual Oxford League, we aim to bring people together and grow organically.

Coaching: Elevating the quality of coaching through accreditation programs is paramount. Our partnerships with NTUC uTAP and SkillsFuture Credits will help alleviate training costs and promote professional development.

Performance: With the inclusion of Flying Disc (Ultimate & Disc Golf) at the SEA Games and a focus on Beach Ultimate and the Masters Program, we are poised to enhance our regional presence and competitive agenda.

Path Forward

Looking ahead, the SFDA will kick off our 25th Anniversary celebrations in January 2025. A series of events are planned to commemorate our achievements and engage our community. We are grateful for the government’s support through various grants and remain committed to sustaining and growing our momentum.

As we forge ahead, I call upon the leaders within our community to support these initiatives. Together, let’s continue to cultivate a thriving, inclusive environment where our sport can flourish.

Thank you for your passion and dedication. Here’s to a future filled with success, unity, and soaring achievements!

Warm regards,

Subhajeet (Jeet) Parida
